the anniversary of Katrina with a global perspective

NBC put an amazing program on tonight which reviewed the amazing struggle that took place during the hurricane…
during the aftermath…
a modern tragedy…
it was especially tragic to so many because it was in the USA…
but wait…
around the world, this disaster is just one of many…
just take a look in Africa via the BBC webpage
and South Asia
…our ablity to know what is going on shows us the severe need which exists around this weary old planet…

cleaning up the junk room

Anna and I invested the day assembling some shelves and then cleaning out the junk room at our house… I heard someone say if you haven’t worn something in six months, get rid of it… I’m not going quit that far, but I think how much we are willing to throw away and do without is a good guage on our love of stuff… and the more junk you toss out, the more room there is to live… hmmm… there MUST be a principle there somewhere…

prayer: the response of the helpless

check this out

“…helplessness is the real secret and the impelling power of prayer…” [from Richard Foster’s intro to Prayer by Hallesby]

man, that really slaps me in the face… prayer is NOT a required communication with God… it is a time of enjoying Him who made me… I go to Him because I am so helpless… and HE CARES!!! How awesome is that? How cool is it to FINALLY discover that HE CARES, and is ALWAYS there! (sorry for yelling) ANd this is why so many people (especially the American church) just doesn’t get it… it isn’t about doing and asking for stuff to get done, it’s about just being with him… like a helpless baby in the arms of its father…

“Father, I ask not that you do stuff for us, I beg you to make us WANT to pray, to be with you and to experience your grace…”

first official day back to work

today was my first official day back at work… I listened to people talk just about all day long… of course all will admit I do my share, BUT I did listen to a lot of people, the VAST majority of these words were encouraging, uplifting, important and relevant… which is what a community of followers of Jesus are supposed to be engaged in… but I was really spent when I got home…

then in a meeting to plan a worship time later this week, I was urged to learn a new song… “I Give You My Heart” so tonight I’ve been learning the way Hillsong does it… its an awesome song…

Then a minute ago I went to favorites to save the site and I noticed a site that I had forgotten about, its the blog of a worship leader I met at a conference in Szeged last year… he’s back in Hungary, headed for Serbia… Go check Eric out and pray for them…

then I found a GREAT book on the New Testament documents that I have used for a long time to encourage me in a “modern” way about the NT docs….
