Sabbath
Dan Allender has written a thought provoking volume on Sabbath (with that title – scroll down a few posts for the cover pic). I am glad for the reminders:
“We are driven because our work brings us power and pride that dulls our deep desire for delight.”
“Holy simply means set aside, not lost in the sea of everything else.”
Delight requires the courage to be attentive, intentional, and diligent.”
More to come I’m sure.

Ukraine’s new president
Since I keep an eye on politics in the region and have kept up primarily via The Economist… here is their report on the swearing in of the new president and an analysis of what will come next.

out and about in rural Ukriane
Ok, its getting close to 0200 but I have to write this post while I am still so pumped about the day I just had… The Bishop, Translator Anya and I spent the day with kids in four of the five Second Chance Shelters. We got to hear some awesome stories of God’s faithfulness, eat great food, interview kids about their lives, see the homes they live in, hear AN AMAZING concert (that I will post on YouTube as soon as I have the technology available -maybe this weekend) by the kids in the last shelter who were all dressed up. It was just so cool to see what God is doing in their lives. God is simply amazing in what he is doing through these people. Stories of hope will be forthcoming, just not tonight.

latest books
some books I’ve finished lately:
Very insightful to life under communism in Hungary in the 50’s. Much of this was gleaned right from a daughter’s examination of the Secret Police files. As I read it, I would Gmap the locations and it was more meaningful to me as I am more and more familiar with Budapest. I’m not sure everyone would have connected to the book, so I withhold strong recommendation. But I very much enjoyed the read.
Okay, I got this as a gift and was pretty excited. But, I was a little pu off my some of the leaps the writer took to explain stuff. Don’t get me wrong, it was great to read about the albums and read about the spiritual journey therein but I guess I broke rule 1 and had an expectation. My bad. But if you’re a U2 fan, I think it would be enlightening, if nothing else, it verifies a lot of what you are thinking as you listen to the lyrics. I would like to hear his thoughts on the new album.
IN THE SUITCASE:
I brought this on the trip… haven’t quitee opened it yet.
A friend gave me this last week, I brought it, I think I’m due some reminding on this topic.

A week in Ukraine
For the next 7 days I’ll be serving and hanging out with friends in Ukraine. Tonight I’ll be teaching in a church outside of Kyiv, tomorrow in Vinnitsya, then Thursday night I’ll be teaching a business English class. I will also be visiting homes for abandoned children and will be posting some new pix to the blog and the website when I get both the time and an adequate internet connection, time AND internet… hmm that may be awhile…

news from the trip
WOW!!… Dulles now has their tram system up and running! No longer do you take the old “mobile lounge” which lumbered around the tarmak (sp?) but right after the recently opened and greatly improved security system… DULLES is now rivaling Frankfurt for efficiency! Well, on the way out anyway.
I dodged a bullet! I flew Austrian through Vienna last night/today. Lufthansa went on strike at midnight, I am sure glad I flew Austrian on my Lufthansa mile reward ticket and not Lufthansa itself, I might be figuring out how to take a train to Budapest instead of sitting here in the capital of Hungary.
Rumors are flying that banks are doubling their international use fee from 1% to 2%. That would be such a drag… Banks, ugh…
Off to Kyiv tomorrow… glad I’m on Malev not Lufthansa.
