an important read: for parents of children, children of parents and all humans in between

Spiritual development is important. How to DO spiritual development is vital*. To consider HOW God designed the human for spiritual development and how it works is a wonder of understanding that awaits you in Anatomy of the Soul.

But at a deeper level, this book helps us see how our interactions have significant implications in those were interacting with.

This is important for those of us who are parents, children and other humans designed by God in His image for fellowship with Him.

For parents who are currently rearing children, this will help you know how to talk to and correct your children in affirming ways.

I’ve recommended quite a few books on this blog, but there is NONE more important to our mental, emotional and spiritual well being than this one.

Buy it.

Read it.

Grow.
*Regular readers of this blog will know how important spiritual development is and that it is at the heart of my book. But Anatomy… is so helpful, that in the revision of As We’re Going (currently being edited) I’ll be adding the lessons I’ve learned from Thompson.

For you!

Yeah, it’s HARD!

But rememember… “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭12:9‬ ‭ESV‬‬

May God use this reminder so that we press on!

Hang on, even when it’s hard.

Though skies are dark and circumstances are tough,

look to He who is greater than the foreboding seas and threatening skies.

“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.” (‭‭James‬ ‭1:12‬ ‭ESV‬‬)

The need for barriers… thoughts from the NC Outer Banks

Though, here on North Carolina’s outer banks, we’ve seen only the outermost edge of Irma’s effect, a lesson has been learned.

Yesterday morning, a couple of hours before hide tide we observed  these conditions:

Old Glory and the red flags that prohibit swimming were straining in the steady wind. The beach was not quite abandoned, but almost so because the wind made sitting or playing uncomfortable.

This morning, though the sustained winds had decreased, the sky was darker and the waves were actually rougher…

Near the end of my walk I had crossed from that eastward ocean vista to the westward view on the Currituck Sound side of the island…

What a difference.

Thus, I realized the importance of these naturally occurring barrier islands. They form a kind of shield for the shore across the sound.

We need barriers, boundaries and shields as we walk this journey as pupils of Jesus. The shield of faith, of course, comes to mind.

The waves and wind of life will come; we need that shield. But to lift and hold a shield takes training. Thus we must train our hearts and minds daily to look to He who is our shield! Then, as we’ve made looking to Him second nature, when storms rage, we’re ready.  With our aim at Him, not the struggle, He will guide us through to the calmer waters.

To God be all the glory.
