Rejoice in what God has done!

“I will greatly rejoice in the Lord; my soul shall exult in my God, for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation; he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, … ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭61:10‬ ‭ESV
“Let the righteous one rejoice in the Lord and take refuge in him! Let all the upright in heart exult!”

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭64:10‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭3:21-26‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Augustine: faith, hope and love

“…faith refers to things past and present and future. For we believe that Christ died; this is a past event. We believe that he sitteth at the Father’s right hand; this is present. We believe that he will come as our judge; this is future.”

get this and you get the point of disciple making: HIS glory

“For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”‭‭Romans‬ ‭15:4-6‬ ‭ESV‬‬

seek thoughtful biblical balance not extremes

Be careful on the rocky path (or beach) of life’s decisions.

“The simple believes everything, but the prudent gives thought to his steps.”‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭14:15‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Be careful what you accept as truth. Measure the claims of people by the whole counsel of the word of God. Just because someone is well meaning and has a good reputation and has been convinced of X, doesn’t make it right or true.

Many false or incomplete teachings are spread, not because they are biblical theologically, but because so-and-so said it was so or they saw or heard this or that from X, Y or Z.

There are few arguments (especially today) greater than this for being a regular student and reader of a broad spectrum of scripture. Knowing God deeply and widely is the source of true wisdom.

To focus too tightly in one section of the Bible for too long (such as the prophets – to “hear prophetically” or the epistles – “because I want to discern truth”) is to ignore the story of God in the historical books or the beauty of God in the poetry or the magnificence of Christ in the Gospels. Reading broadly informs the heart and mind.
Regular readers know that I use daily and urge others to read the @YouVersion plan ‘M’Cheyne One Year Reading Plan’. Check it out here:

Be ever growing in your knowledge of Scripture, it will keep you from extremes of the rocky path (or beach)

Ascribe due greatness to Him who alone deserves glory!

“Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?” “Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?” For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.”
