Trusting in God

I Gok Dong, ROK, January 1986

A couple of posts back I suggested Scripture meditation as a response to anxiety. One Bible text has really been a help to me through the years as I’ve meditated on God using the text. I didn’t know it at the time but I was training my heart and mind to trust God.

The picture above was discovered recently in an old photo album. I took it while on a morning walk back in the 20th century using a film camera. It was January 1986. The reason I chose it for this post is the tree. It’s a village in South Korea. In the distance is the NakDong river. Here’s the verse for your consideration:

Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD,

whose trust is the LORD.

He is like a tree planted by water,

that sends out its roots by the stream,

and does not fear when heat comes,

for its leaves remain green,

and is not anxious in the year of drought,

for it does not cease to bear fruit.

(Jeremiah 17:7-8)
