Christian, are you living as a ruin? As spiritually poor?
Imagine you get a notice that someone left you some money, but for various reasons, you assume it is a very modest amount. You get busy and don’t get around even to checking on it for quite a while. Finally, you do so and are thunderstruck to discover it was a fortune, and you had not been doing anything with it. You were actually rich but had been living poor.
Keller, Prayer, p. 168, a challenge from this text:
For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, … that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. (Ephesians 3:14, 16-19 ESV)
Don’t let your life be a ruin.

A few years ago this week, I joined a pastor and a journalist on a pilgrimage of sorts, to the small town of Srebrenica in eastern Bosnia. We were traveling to attend the annual memorial service. Each year as more remains are found they are buried in the cemetery that has become a national memorial.
Because we were traveling to the memorial service, and there was an American in the car. The car we were in was subjected to a very thorough search and my fellow travelers were carefully questioned at the border. This delay caused us to miss much of the service but we found the service on the radio.
This film is a reminder from that day.
There are many events remembering that atrocity of 20 years ago this week. This is a report from the BBC from London today.

morning reminder
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV)

trust
Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you. (Psalm 33:20-22 ESV)
Our trust must be in the Lord. We may celebrate a nation as it does good. But remember, a nation is a collection of people, people are fallen, they fail. Trust in God who never fails.
Excellent and honorable
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. (Philippians 4:8 ESV)
Yesterday I read of some excellent and honorable work going on among refugees in Szeged, Hungary.
A beautiful city on the Serb border that is the first larger city in Hungary on the Black Route.
Earlier this week (scroll down) I noted an article about The Black Route to Europe. Szeged is on that route. CLICK HERE to read about work among those refugees.
