On this (American) Thanksgiving Day, I send greetings to my beloved friends and colleagues at home and abroad. May our Lord bless you all with grateful hearts no matter the circumstances. May we all give Him praise on this day and every day. Soli Deo Gloria!
He who said “aim at heaven” went there on this date in 1963. The impact of C. S. Lewis on Christian discipleship is inestimable. In the chapter titled “Hope” in Mere Christianity is the full sentence which, without a doubt, is my most often used quote: “Aim at heaven and you will get earth ‘thrown in’: aim at earth and you will get neither.”
I’ve often wondered if that quote was inspired by this text from Paul to the Colossians:
“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” (Colossians 3:1-2 ESV)
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem! “May they be secure who love you! Peace be within your walls and security within your towers!” Psalm 122:6-7 ESV
