What are the spiritual qualities we need to live in?

“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.”‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭1:3-9‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Complaining

I once worked for a guy who had a no complaining sign on the mirror of his office washroom. It was a reminder to him and any that he didn’t abide whining or complaining.

When we complain in our hearts or to one another, we may just be intensifying our complaint. That is, if we don’t turn our attention to the Father. This psalm gives a proper example:

“Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint; preserve my life from dread of the enemy.

Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked, from the throng of evildoers, who whet their tongues like swords, who aim bitter words like arrows, shooting from ambush at the blameless, shooting at him suddenly and without fear. They hold fast to their evil purpose; they talk of laying snares secretly, thinking, “Who can see them?” They search out injustice, saying, “We have accomplished a diligent search.”

For the inward mind and heart of a man are deep. But God shoots his arrow at them; they are wounded suddenly. They are brought to ruin, with their own tongues turned against them; all who see them will wag their heads.

Then all mankind fears; they tell what God has brought about and ponder what he has done.

Let the righteous one rejoice in the Lord and take refuge in him! Let all the upright in heart exult!”

His strength in the face of our fear!

“But I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been to me a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress. O my Strength, I will sing praises to you, for you, O God, are my fortress, the God who shows me steadfast love.”‭‭Psalms‬ ‭59:16-17‬ ‭ESV‬‬

when trial strikes…

God is waiting to bring you through…

“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”‭‭James‬ ‭1:2-5‬ ‭ESV‬‬

yearning to know God?

“But our yearning to see God will be satisfied only by knowing God more fully and more intimately. The more we know, the more we desire to know.” – Gregory of Nyssa 4th c.
