Balkan tour begins today

At 14:00 Laci and I will board the Shadowfox and head south through Szeged to Subo, and to Vukovar for a couple of hours of sleep. Early Saturday am (4?) we will drive to Screbrenica, Bosnia for the day, returning to Vukovar and back to HU on Sunday afternoon. Monday I will hang out with a friend in the morning and then take my last train ride of this trip returning to Bp in the afternoon. As they say in South Africa, it’s hectic.

Down in South Africa, they say ‘hectic’ a lot. I got back to Bp on Sat and went to Laci’s and during the news there was a commercial for S. African travel, the guy said hectic and I had to laugh. Josh says hectic all the time. Josh and Abby have put up a new blog… click here

CCBCE

I’ve heard of Calvary Chapel Bible College Europe in Vajta, Hungary for years. Today I came to hear vonLazo teach and to see my old friend Kyle. It is an amazing place, simply amazing. But guys, it is not a castle it’s a palace. Whoa, Kyle lives in a palace, that’s cool.

relief

I heard a great talk at CC Budapest this morning. Here is the quote that I think is a word that a lot of us followers of Jesus really need to hear:

“You are free in Christ and don’t have to pretend to be something you are not”

thoughts on racism

In SA I am faced with a more explicit racism, in my experience in the US it is more subtle. Here is is out there. To watch the way that groups treat one another is so interesting. For instance, I as I sit in this cafe I observe the reaction of people to their waitress. The don’t even look at them. It is so interesting to observe these things and then look into self and realize how we all are carrying around these built in stereotypes about groups and place people in the groups just because they look and act different than we. During the Confederation cup Cup, the US and Spanish captains read statements against racism. The advertising signs behind the sidelines that rotated between sponsoring companies also included a sign that said something like “Say No to Racism.” I was surprised by that. I am less surprised by it now. I have seen and heard things that have made me think about my own prejudiced attitudes. Maybe the racism around me in the US is less subtle that I thought.
