The glory of God

“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard. Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun, which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber, and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy. Its rising is from the end of the heavens, and its circuit to the end of them, and there is nothing hidden from its heat.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭19‬:‭1‬-‭6‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Hallowed be thy name…

Learning to love glorifying God may well begin with those four words. ⬆️

They are, of course, the opening words of the Lord’s Prayer. I’ve learned how the Lord’s Prayer is an outline for prayer. I use it especially when sleep disappoints (like this jet lagged night).

And it starts with “Hallowed be thy name…”

The Psalmist seems to understand this:

“O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.” Psalm‬ ‭8‬:‭1‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Dwell on these words for a moment and think of the vast greatness of the LORD, and glorify His name.

Hope…

There’s no greater hope than to believe this…

But to really believe this we are wise to build our understanding of how very great God is.

How to begin? Go dwell in Psalm 139.

Meditate on His greatness as it applies to you!

Not condemned

In Romans 8 Paul states clearly that “there is no condemnation” IF you’re IN Christ Jesus.

I cling desperately to that truth.

It is also a teaching I love to meditate on from Psalms.

Are you taking your refuge in Him?

Or is your own strength and shrewdness your refuge?

(FWIW, a long time follower asked about this blog and encouraged me to return. So I have.)

Listening to the heart

This morning as I sat and read from Psalm 119 these words stood out:

“I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways. I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word.” (Psalm‬ ‭119‬:‭15‬-‭16‬ ‭ESV‬‬)

A bit later as I chatted with a couple of brothers over eggs and other goodies, we began talking about getting truths from our heads to our heart.

It is my experience that meditation on the words of the Bible is a real answer to moving truth from the head to the heart.

There are several ways to meditate on Scripture. But the key seems to be to make time to go slow and reread. Don’t be in such a hurry to finish that you miss the meaning.

Here’s a NT way of expressing it:

“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” (Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭ESV‬‬)

Pause, stop, set your mind on Him and He will move you from head knowledge to heart understanding.
