Perspective

I love remembering this perspective. From 2,200 feet above the sea, you can’t quite tell that the waves down there look like this…

It’s normal, it’s human to struggle with circumstances. When we find ourselves in a time of fear, frustration, or being overwhelmed, remember, dear fellow disciple of Jesus, God is greater and He is for you. Turn your eyes upon the greatness of God.

“Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. Your righteousness is like the mountains of God; your judgments are like the great deep; man and beast you save, O Lord.” Psalm‬ ‭36‬:‭5‬-‭6‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“A Christian is like a ship at anchor, which, though safe, may sometimes be tossed upon the water.” – Thomas Watson

Changing our perspective on circumstances is frequently the best cure for our feelings.

Turn to Him and bask in His greatness and allow His Spirit to bring you comfort.

There is little better to help us with perspective than to dwell in the Psalms every day.

By the word…

“By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host. He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap; he puts the deeps in storehouses.” Psalm‬ ‭33‬:‭6‬-‭7‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Whatever you’re feeling today, you may rest assured that our God who created everything is still God.

That should give us joy.

If it doesn’t we should examine our hearts to see where our treasure is.

Selah.

Vote

Is is our right and duty as citizens.

If your Holy Spirit guided conscience allows you to cast a ballot (that is not a given), it is your right and your duty to vote.

However, follower of Jesus, be careful that neither your candidate, your party, nor your issues become your idol.

Hear this:

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. They collapse and fall, but we rise and stand upright.” Psalm‬ ‭20‬:‭7‬-‭8‬ ‭ESV‬‬

One way, dear followers of Jesus, that we can tell that politics has become an idol – is hatred. If you hate the other candidate or the people who support them, this is against the teaching of Jesus.

-Mark Dever

Jesus said to love your enemy.

James says: “So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.” (4:17)

If you know you should love, and continue to nurture hate, for your own sake, examine your heart.

Ask the Lord, whom you apparently profess, to examine your heart.

So, vote Tuesday and then ask the Lord to help you, on Wednesday, love whoever wins. Even in the face of hate, we can love. Jesus empowers us to do so.

He did.

“Lord, help us love.”

Don’t wait

One thing we learn from reading the Psalms daily is that psalmists often praised God for Himself not just what He did for them.

Don’t wait for the good stuff to praise God, praise Him for Him!

“I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High.” Psalm‬ ‭7‬:‭17‬ ‭ESV‬‬
