Easter worship

This morning we went to church with the princess of Arlington for Easter. There was a good ‘reminding’ sermon during which I was reminded of the centrality of the cross and empty tomb. But before the sermon was piped in via video link (its a DC suburban mega-church with thousands of people and about seven campuses), we were treated to some excellent music which enabled me to enjoy a time of worship of the risen King.
The worship was especially meaningful since the band was led by a young woman who has been a friend of the princess’ since elementary school. Her voice was clear which made even the unfamiliar songs easy to follow and the set was thoughtful and thought provoking which I’ve always found important to worship.
The incredible talent of the musicians enabled a quality of sound which allowed those who listen deeply to go into a state of listening and focusing upon the lyrics that lead to understanding, then to prayer and to a feeling of oneness with the God to whom we sang. I don’t get that experience too often. Far too often the live music I’m around does not facilitate such, thus, I am especially grateful to God for this today. I suppose I am a victim of my music history and taste, it is a doubled-edged sword. Music can take me to worship, but when not well done, can keep me from it. Today, this Easter, I was allowed by God’s servants who have taken good care and built on the talents He gave them to go into a deeper understanding and connection with God.
I was reminded in song and word of the centrality of the cross and the empty tomb. Christ is risen. Indeed, our King has risen!
