early in the morning

Here in the ‘ville, sunrise is at about 06.25 on Resurrection Day. When you arise and see the sun for the first time, say a prayer of thanks that the Son rose from the grave, from the dead, in his body, in a state of glorious victory…

Luke 24:1 But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. 2 And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. 5 And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, 7 that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.”

changing our minds

Yesterday’s post was pretty broad. This morning while reading the Gospels, I was reminded of the thoroughness with which Jesus discussed the need of changing the mind.

Mark 7:14-23… And he called the people to him again and said to them, “Hear me, all of you, and understand: 15 There is nothing outside a person that by going into him can defile him, but the things that come out of a person are what defile him.” 17 And when he had entered the house and left the people, his disciples asked him about the parable. 18 And he said to them, “Then are you also without understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him, 19 since it enters not his heart but his stomach, and is expelled?” (Thus he declared all foods clean.) 20 And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. 21 For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, 22 coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. 23 All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”

Some months ago, I was thinking about Jesus reminding us of the Shema and the fact that he included the mind… I posed this question (or something like this)… Lord what about my thoughts are not honoring to you?

It is the Gospel which changes the mind; with this, I understand the natural state and it causes me to pray the ancient prayer, “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, Saviour, have mercy on me, the sinner.”

I know I cannot change my mind, but I am glad that He will, the blessing of the Gospel. I can’t, but He will…

“Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, Saviour, have mercy on me, the sinner.”

The Gospel does not rest

This morning as I was praying about life and mission, I began thinking about how the Gospel changes and then influences life.

I am thinking about how the Gospel changes our hearts and intentions (Rom. 12.1-2, Heb. 4.12), then our thoughts (2 Cor. 10.5), and from there our life (Mark 10.17-27, 2 Cor. 4.16).

It is in this manner that God uses the Gospel to change and use our lives and then our words. It is with this new and ever growing Gospel heart/mindset that we can interact with our culture/world to speak into said culture/world (2 Cor. 2.14-17).

If we seek Him (Matt. 6.33) and abide/remain/dwell in Him (John 15), we can impact our world as He works on us and through from our changed heart/life.

But first we must submit and remain submissive. The Good News does the rest and does not rest.
