updated website

I’ve been working on our organizational website. Cleaned up some stuff (after I figured out how) and added a slideshow on the home page of pix from across the pond over the last couple of years. Still got a lot to do on it, but it is more up-to-date today than it has been is a while. So check it out!!!!  www.ceokids.org

good friends

There is a saying, “good friends are hard to come by.”

I’m going to meet an old friend tomorrow who is a good friend. One of those friends who you are safe with and can tell anything. This kind of friendship takes work. Many people do not  have many, if any, of these friends. Perhaps because they haven’t done the work.

Serving, listening, loving unconditionally, being there no matter what… these are the things of being a good friend. I’ll bet you could be a good friend to someone.

If you would like to study someone who was and is an amazing friend to many,  read about Jesus.

There is another saying… “If you want a friend, be one.”

cost

In DC, one of my favorite memorials has these words “Freedom isn’t free.” It is the Korean War memorial. There was a great cost for the freedom enjoyed by South Koreans. I believe the vast majority of these folks are grateful for those who paid the price. The cost of freedom continues… read about a modern cost, click here, the cost for the freedom of the press. We take so much for granted, even true news that is free. I think that each of us should think about and be thankful to God for all the people who have gone ahead of us to pay a price of one kind or another for what we enjoy and take for granted every day… let us count the cost and be thankful for all the people God has used to bring us where we are today.

Labor Day

Monday is the first Monday in September and in America that is the holiday we call Labor Day. It is the practical end of summer since the vast majority of schools will be in session the day after. We remember it by having an extra day off for some folks. There is some uncertainty about it origin (want to know more? click here) but that which is certain is that our country (as well as others) has benefited from the hard work of laborers of all kinds, both blue collar and white.

Labor is important. It is essential to the development of the well being of a people and culture. In following Jesus, there is labor involved, but the thing we remember is that this labor is in response to a free gift, Grace. We did not earn it. We did not receive the reward because we were owed it for that which we have done like a laborer gets his wage. We received Peace with God through the free Grace God gives, but there is labor involved. For we are told to “work out our salvation” by Paul (Phil. 2.12), and Paul worked very, very hard and was an amazing example to us to live hard for God.

So, on this Labor Day as some of get an extra day off, let us remember to work hard in response to the Grace we have received.
