Grateful to be serving

I’m in Hungary at Lake Balaton and am blessed to be teaching from 2 Corinthians 4:7-??? this week (I’m no longer sure how far I’m going to get). Tonight we considered Paul’s life in light of verses 8-9. It is great how scripture reminds us of God’s faithfulness. Tomorrow I get to teach “The Path” (link on right) in a breakout session. Laci took this shot of me teaching tonight…

MLK

was killed on this day in 1968…

the day before, he had said this…

“We’ve got some difficult days ahead. But it really doesn’t matter with me now, because I’ve been to the mountaintop…And He’s allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I’ve looked over, and I’ve seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight that we, as a people, will get to the promised land.”

smartphone (computer and social networking) addiction

“Not long ago only doctors were on call all the time. Now everybody is.”

“How many people can honestly say that they have never pruned their e-mails to put off tackling more demanding tasks?”

“Employees find it ever harder to distinguish between “on-time” and “off-time”—and indeed between real work and make-work. Executives are lumbered with two overlapping workdays: a formal one full of meetings and an informal one spent trying to keep up with the torrent of e-mails and messages.”

“None of this is good for businesspeople’s marriages or mental health.”

These important quotes are from a recent article in “The Economist” I urge you to read it and interpret it broadly… in other words, not just your smart phone, but all the screens you sit gazing at… oh, and if you are not a business person, this STILL applies to you. Click HERE to read the whole article.

Oh, I have “The Servant” ready in Netflix… you may hear more about it…

back on the rails

if we view life as a journey, we find ourselves together with people in a compartment in the train we ride on…

I left Budapest on a train…

…to get to Szeged where I spoke at church on using questions, relationships and Scripture in discipling relationships…

the question is, what do we do with those people? Do we ignore them? Reach out? intentionally connect with them?

At the next stop, when you look out the window, you will see people get on the train, they may enter the compartment you are in, what will you do?

Venus, Jupiter and the crescent moon

my long faithful (we figure 5yrs), but now dead Canon took this (blurry cuz I had no steadying surface, sorry) as its last night photo on Sunday night.

On the left and below are Jupiter and Venus (according to a web search) and the largest light is a crescent moon… it was pretty cool to behold walking up the street to the Luper’s. Joanna and I have been collaborating on what the replacement camera that best fits my use over here could be… CLICK here to see what I’m thinking about.
