I found Eugene Peterson’s memoir very helpful. The story of his life journey is helpful because Peterson uses stages of life and experiences to teach lessons. I was fascinated by hos journey from being academia bound to being a pastor. He talks about calling in the context of experience. But I think the two most helpful things one might take from this are his descriptions of the collaboration of people of faith and the stories of how people grew into their understanding and belief in Jesus. The bell that rang most true for me was the moving out of the “Badlands” which included a deeper understanding of what Sabbath really is. Is Sabbath important to you?

The King Jesus Gospel
Scot McKnight’s thoughts on the WHOLE Gospel really rang true to me. To understand that the whole Gospel is not just a plan of salvation but is an understanding of God’s greater plan. God interacts with us in the Creation, Fall and Redemption story.
