From the last post you know I’ve read Muller but what you do not know is how his experienced renewed in me a sense of trust in the greatness and faithfulness of God.
But, there is a question that comes forth, what about all the teaching that exists on how to raise money and the systems that are in place for such?
How do we square this with Muller’s experience?
This is the question I am pondering.
So, having read a bit of Muller, I am most encouraged by his testimony of the faithfulness of God…
Here is a thought that I have about squaring the two ideas…
trusting God completely meant more than that which is practiced most often today and which is, by the way, more complicated in process than the “wishful thinking” that I think most people call prayer (sorry, that was intense). And it is CERTAINLY NOT prosperity theology of ANY kind.
Muller’s version of asking God – not men – involved his being on his knees (literally, not just in his heart) for hours in the morning and at most other times. He was truly in communion with God. This set Muller apart and I believe brought about God’s blessing. For those of us that claim to know a little bit about fund raising, this is, in the modern day (some 160+ years after Muller) this is not very systematic approach to bringing in the funds needed for ministry.
Muller said pray. But when Muller said pray, he meant something very different. His prayer was intense.
What if I were to invest all my “fund raising time” in fervent prayer to God about the needs of the ministry, would I then be acting irresponsibly by modern standards?
Well, I am processing this and would invite the reflections and reactions of others to this question.
