Sunday

This morning the team and I will be spending some time in an orientation session which will include lesson 1 of Gospel Centered Life. Over the next two weeks, we are going to go through this material together to let God work on our hearts. Following that session, I will head to Bp to return Shadowfax to its lair and then have a couple of meetings while the team heads out to serve with the baseball coaches.  I know the veterans are looking forward to working along side Doug and Lea. I just have to remember to get the wiffle ball stuff up from Bp!

(oh, I cheated and wrote this on Saturday morning for auto-publication today)

day 3: from Budapest to Vac

Yesterday was a really productive day. In a meeting with the director at the primary school, I was blessed to receive a ton of paperwork for getting our new teachers processing into HU a little easier. It was indeed the most valuable meeting yet. I have a very good feeling about this school and our folk in it.

I then had a quick meet with Matt and then back to my friend’s house for a nap, since I only slept three hours the night before. Jet-lag is a little different this time around.  One thing I am already missing is routine. I hope that the move to Vac will help me return to that since there will be a more definite schedule.

Yesterday afternoon evening I hung around with a church as they engaged in outreach to their community. It is good to see a group of believers reaching out to their community. They offered food to the several homeless people in this part of town and then they enjoyed one another and visitors at a neighborhood coffee house. We are planning for our team to spend a day with them doing some painting or cleaning at their kindergarten in a couple of weeks.

Last night my friends were telling me about watching old “Alias” episodes, anybody remember “Alias”? So I turned them on to “Fringe.” We started too late and couldn’t make it through the pilot, oh well.

This morning I’ve packed up for the trip to Vac, trying to catch a ride across the river to a town that will be way faster than going down to the center of Bp and then back up. Once in Vac, my ability to connect to web will be somewhat curtailed so posting will be less often.

day two in Budapest

This is day two in Budapest. I have an 8am across town so I’m up early. Yesterday was an excellent first day as I began re-connecting with folks for the work of the coming weeks. Bosnia trip is now verified, going to enjoy a couple of days of praying in Sarajevo and on a mountain in the south whilst sleeping in a tent!
It appears the team is all set with BA. They arrive tomorrow here about 1730. It also seems that I will have a vehicle to haul luggage in, thanks be to God indeed.
Connecting with people has been good. Several now wish me “Welcome Home!” these days, its fun. Waiting for my five words of Hungarian to return is always fun to I have carry on a five word conversation with a stranger.
Am looking forward to visiting a new outreach this afternoon. This small church in far NW Bp has an outreach to the homeless giving them sandwiches and tea. I will hang out with these folks from 1700 today to see whats up and lend a hand. I will be talking with them about their pre-school and how our team and Hungarian friends can lend a hand cleaning, painting or what-not two weeks from today. Oh, it’s 0655, I’m off to my 8am.

conversation on the plane

in the delirium of conversation with a new friend on the flight to London at about 0346 eastern time, the subject of America as a “Christian nation” came up and the USA’s policy toward the state of Israel especially in light (as I see it) of the injustices committed by said state as seen two mornings ago (or is it three?).
The conversation was based on an understanding of the founders of the US and their level of belief in God, or, as much as one can actually know about such things… anyway, the founder whose house I live near – you know, the guy who cut the miracles out of the New Testament – he was an important founder and I understand from this new friend that there is some newer writing which asks about Washington’s real faith… well, whatever… I agree with Derek Webb, give him a listen,

don’t let your eschatology confuse your Kingdom mindedness
