appetite

I was thinking more about the aforementioned film (yesterday’s post) and the themes that are explored… and the idea of appetite came to mind…

what are we hungry for?

what are our appetites? fame? riches? popularity? power? love? companionship? knowledge? relationships?

personally, I have to admit I have pretty big appetites and go after what I am hungry for with zeal…

where does self control come in? what is self control? is the ability to contain oneself?

Scripture says it is a fruit of the Spirit, a result of the Spirit working within us… but for the Spirit to work within us requires our submission… as I consider submission, isn’t it almost the opposite of succumbing to appetite? In Friday’s film, Ryder is told (in essence) that he is going through the family and destroying them one at a time… but in the end, faith proved stronger than un-belief… faith empowered self-control…

“…happiness now is irrelavant, it is the hereafter…”

though you may argue with this quote (may will, based on their theological grounding), it bears consideration…

what are we hungry for? think on this, this sabbath
